Subspecies V: Bloodrise (2023)

Subspecies V: Bloodrise follows the descent of Radu (once more played by series regular Anders Hove) from a noble warrior of the Church to a depraved, blood-hungry creature of the night. Stolen by crusaders on the night of his birth from his demon mother and vampire father, Radu grows up with no knowledge of his monstrous bloodline. Trained and exploited by a brotherhood of mystic monks to slay all enemies of the church, fate brings him back one night to his father’s castle, armed with the monster-slaying Sword of Laertes, to destroy the vampire Vladislas and reclaim a holy relic, the Bloodstone.

The movie was originally going to simply premiere on Full Moon’s own streaming platform, but that seems to have changed, as producer Charles Band revealed that it’s getting a special one night theatrical release to “40 or 50 cities” on May 15th via Alamo Drafthouse. Sometime after that it’ll be released on streaming. (3/20/23)

Full Moon Features will exclusively debut this movie via their streaming platform, followed by a release on Amazon sometime shortly after. (2/3/22)

Filmed in Serbia in and around historic castles and ruins.

Charles Band offered an update on when production will finally get started, which will apparently be sometime next Spring. Here’s what he had to say: “As you know, we are prepping – have been prepping for a while – the fifth Subspecies film. That was scheduled to shoot in Croatia early last year, 2020, and of course that got messed up because of Covid. But we’re back now; in April probably, May at the latest, shooting. Ted Nicolaou’s at the helm, (returning stars) Anders Hove, of course, Denice Duff. We’re rocking it there and everybody’s been wanting to see this show for so long, we’ve been wanting to make it, and now hopefully we’ll be shooting sometime in the spring.”

Production obviously didn’t begin in March thanks to the pandemic, but according to Full Moon they still plan on filming (possibly later this year) once things loosen up and “the COVID-19 crisis begins to repair.” (6/4/20)

Filming was originally set to begin late October/Early November 2019 in Albania, but was eventually pushed to March 2020.

When the film begins production it will be streamed live at the official Deadly Ten site.

Denice Duff reportedly returns as Michelle Morgan.

Anders Hove returns as Radu Vladislas.

Ted Nicolaou returns to direct.

This movie is part of Full Moon’s “Deadly Ten,” which are 10 feature films that the studio plans to go in production within the year, which is reportedly something they haven’t done since the 90’s.

This is a prequel to the Subspecies movies. The last film Subspecies: The Awakening was released on video in 1998.
