High school student Sadie Harper and her younger sister Sawyer are reeling from the recent death of their mother and aren’t getting much support from their father, Will, a therapist who is dealing with his own pain. When a desperate patient unexpectedly shows up at their home seeking help, he leaves behind a terrifying supernatural entity that preys on families and feeds on the suffering of its victims.
This film was originally set to debut on Hulu’s streaming service, but due to positive test screenings the studio decided to put it in theaters instead. A similar thing happened with last year’s Smile, which was originally going to premiere on Paramount+ until test screenings proved positive. Smile would go on to make over $216-million worldwide on a budget of $17-million. (1/20/23)

Based on the short story with the same name by Stephen King, which was first published in the March 1973 issue of the magazine Cavalier, and later collected in King’s 1978 collection Night Shift.
