Inspired by the actual files of Father Gabriele Amorth, Chief Exorcist of the Vatican (Academy Award®-winner Russell Crowe), The Pope’s Exorcist follows Amorth as he investigates a young boy’s terrifying possession and ends up uncovering a centuries-old conspiracy the Vatican has desperately tried to keep hidden.

 

Screen Gems distributes.

Legendary Italian actor Franco Nero (Django) plays the Pope in the film.

Russell Crowe plays Father Gabriele Amorth.

Directed by Julius Avery (Overlord, Samaritan).

Ángel Gómez Hernández (Don’t Listen) was previously attached to direct when the project initially began development in 2020.

This project is based on Father Gabriele Amorth, who was a legendary Italian priest who reportedly performed over 100,000 exorcisms for the Vatican. The film will draw from his international bestselling memoirs An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment released The Pope’s Exorcist on Digital on May 30, 2023.
