A Banquet (2021)

Post by Krappy » Mon Jan 10, 2022 6:05 am

Widowed mother Holly (Sienna Guillory) is radically tested when her teenage daughter Betsey (Jessica Alexander) experiences a profound enlightenment and insists that her body is no longer her own, but in service to a higher power. Bound to her newfound faith, Betsey refuses to eat but loses no weight. In an agonizing dilemma, torn between love and fear, Holly is forced to confront the boundaries of her own beliefs.

IFC Midnight distributes in the US.
On describing the film, director Ruth Paxton was quoted saying: "At the core, it's about a family dealing with grief. It is a horror film, but it's not full of jump scares and gore. I wanted the film to be a really uncomfortable experience and for the horror to be more insidious than visual. I didn't want the audience to ever feel safe in the same way you never feel safe when you're watching The Shining. That was a big inspiration for me."
This marks the feature film directorial debut of Ruth Paxton.
This is a UK horror movie.
IFC Midnight released A Banquet to select theaters, Digital platforms and VOD on February 18, 2022.
Signature Entertainment released A Banquet in the UK to cinemas and Digital platforms on March 11, 2022.
A Banquet premieres on Shudder on May 26, 2022.
